IS YOUR CAR OR TRUCK READY FOR WINTER

IS YOUR CAR OR TRUCK READY FOR WINTER?

1. Tires - Get a Grip

Tires that are worn won't grip well on wet or icy roads, increasing your stopping distance. Improperly inflated tires can wear unevenly and prematurely, and also can cause handling issues. The minimum tread allowed is 3.5mm or about 4/32", but even that isn't enough for bad weather.

Any travel over the Malahat requires tires that are M + S (mud and snow) rated as a minimum between October 1st and March 31st. Three Peak rating is even better and Winter (snowflake) is a straight winter tire. What's the best tire for you? Come in and talk to our NAPA AutoPro experts to ensure your tires are ready for winter.

2. Vision - Optimize your visibility

Here on the South Island, we get a lot of rain through the winter. Wiper blades are typically made from rubber which degrades over time. They're also susceptible to tears. To make sure your visibility is at it's best, check your wiper blades, or have your NAPA AutoPro professional check them for you. If at all in doubt, changing them at least once per year is probably best.

3. Batteries - Don't get stranded

Is your car or truck turning over slowly? Does it seem like your lights are dimmer than normal? Cold weather can further emphasis a weak battery and it could leave you stranded and needing a boost. Your NAPA AutoPro professional can test your battery and the rest of your charging and starting systems. This is done free with every oil change. A good guideline is that most batteries should last about 5-6 years under normal conditions.

4. Front End - How's your alignment?

A vehicle that is out of alignment can cause handling issues, and can cause your tires to wear prematurely and unevenly. This can all lead to unsafe handling conditions. If you feel you have a handling issue, book an appointment to have your front end checked and an alignment. Your NAPA AutoPro professional will advise you if there are repairs needed prior to completing an alignment.

5. Preventative Maintenance - Take care of your investment

For many people, a vehicle is one of the more significant investments they will make. Don't get caught with expensive repairs that could have been prevented. Ensure you are getting your engine oil changed at the recommended interval to keep things running smoothly. With every oil change, we will do a free NAPA AutoPro Inspection. We'll let you know if there's maintenance items that are required, or let you know if you can expect repairs to be needed soon. With our electronic inspection sheets, we can send you a link to see how your car or truck is doing, complete with photos and notes.
